Built by Community: Alex Snider's Story 🌋

Alex never planned to attend Volcano.

A client’s  keynote was only days away, and they wanted one more set of eyes before stepping on stage. Alex had never been to Guatemala, had never heard of Volcano Summit, but she said yes anyway, packed her bags, and boarded a plane, curious about a place she'd never experienced before.

Once her work was done, something unexpected happened.

She found herself in the middle of a vibrant community that already seemed connected. Conversations flowed effortlessly around her. People knew each other. Ideas moved from one circle to the next. Spanish filled the air, and although her own wasn't perfect, what made her feel most out of place wasn't the language, it was not knowing what role she was meant to play.

Instead of waiting for an invitation, she created her own.

She stepped away for an hour, studied the speaker list, and intentionally chose a handful of people she genuinely wanted to learn from. One by one, she asked for ten or fifteen minutes of their time.

What happened next became her first glimpse into what makes Volcano different.

Every conversation opened the door to another.

Every introduction became the beginning of the next one.

People simply wanted to help.

By the end of three days, introductions had become meaningful conversations. Conversations became friendships. Friendships became collaborations that are still part of her life years later.

But the greatest transformation didn't happen during those conversations.

It happened afterward.

For years, Alex knew she wanted to dedicate part of her life to meaningful impact. She had explored different paths, imagined working with international organizations, and looked for ways to contribute beyond building companies. What she never knew was what that path would actually look like.

Volcano helped answer that question, and helped her realize she already had everything she needed to contribute.

Her knowledge. Her experience. Her global network.

Today, Alex mentors founders through the Startup Avenue Accelerator, supports entrepreneurs across Latin America, invests as an angel in emerging markets, and continues creating opportunities for others through the same generosity she experienced during her very first Summit.

Because that's what our community does.

It reminds you that impact doesn't always begin by creating something new. Sometimes, it begins by sharing what you already have.

Volcano became more than an annual event on Alex's calendar.

It became a place she returns to every year because of the people, the purpose, and the possibility of contributing to something much bigger than herself.

Every connection created a ripple.

Those echoes continue moving forward through every founder she mentors, every entrepreneur she backs, and every person whose path crosses hers.
