José has over 20 years of experience as senior banker, private equity and venture capital investor and entrepreneur. He is Managing Director of SEAF, a global emerging markets impact investment firm with approximately $1.2 billion in assets under management. He is co-founder of several Guatemala-based cleantech and technology startups, including HYBRICO Energy Technologies, a cleantech company offering “hybrid power” solutions for telecom towers in emerging markets, Chopinmol.com, an e-commerce platform focusing on rural communities and Bitmec, an online telemedicine platform addressing the healthcare needs of people living in poor rural communities. José is Senior Advisor to Kingo Energy, a Guatemalan startup that offers prepaid solar energy in off-grid communities. Previously, he was CEO of Global3 Energía, a Spanish clean energy company owned by ArcLight Capital, a leading US energy private equity fund and Head of Citigroup’s Latin American Power Group in New York, where he completed over $12 billion in M&A and capital-raising transactions. José is Chairman of the Guatemalan Venture Capital Association and President of the Gremial de Inversión e Innovación Disruptiva, the tech venture trade association under the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry. José holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, a JD from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude) from the University of Maryland.
